Economic Development and Small Business
Small Business is not only the "employer of first resort" for most people entering the workforce, both youth and immigrants, it is also often the anchor of safe and stable neighborhoods - and key to everyone's way of life. Could you live in San Francisco if you had to go to Burlingame to get your drycleaning, or to San Carlos to get your car repaired ?
I want to encourage neighborhood-serving businesses and business stability through
Encouraging property owners to offer longer leases to neighborhood serving businesses, and limit the impact of formula retail
Encouraging all means available for increased access to credit and capital, including using City funds and banking access to help small businesses gain access and using recent, Green "On-Bill-Financing" initiatives for payment plans for energy-saving capital improvements
Protect and encourage blue- collar jobs through land-use zoning protections for production, distribution and repair, and expand opportunities for San Franciscans in new Green Industries through the SF Building Trades and other training programs.
